It's not just today. It's ALWAYS been like that. Everything is different unless we can apply it to someone we admire. It's just how we are. Things that we don't understand have to "approved" by someone that we feel is somehow an authority on what is cool. And not just what's cool, this applies to areas such as what we think is intelligent or not, what we think is art or not, what we think is proper or not, what we think is right or not. It's an unfortunate but individuality is in limited supply.
